Sponsored by Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian, Jesse White, and the Illinois Center for the Book, Family Reading Night is an annual statewide event held the third Thursday in November. The Illinois State Library will mark annual Family Reading Night on November 19th this year. The event encourages families to read as a group to reinforce the importance of building literacy skills at a young age, but also to build family bonds.
“It’s almost as important to talk about reading as it is to read!” notes Greg McCormick of the Illinois State Library. “Family Reading Night establishes that reading is important- and younger people will model what their parents do.”
