Prospective candidates for Centralia Regional Library District Trustee in the April 2023 Consolidated Election may pick up a candidate packet at the library at 515 East Broadway in Centralia. Candidate packets may be picked up at the circulation desk during normal library hours: Monday-Friday, 9:30 am-6 pm; and Saturday, 10 am-6:00 pm.
Qualifications for a prospective candidate include being registered to vote with at least a one-year residency in the library district at the time the nomination papers are filed. A person is not eligible to serve as a library trustee who, at the time of filing nomination papers, owes money to the library district or has been convicted of any felony. The prospective candidate must also secure the signatures of at least 50 qualified voters who reside within the Centralia Regional Library District on a Petition for Nomination. The first day for circulating petitions is September 20, 2022.
Completed petition packets are to be filed at the library no earlier than 9:30 a.m. on December 12, 2022, and no later than 6 p.m. on December 19, 2022. Three of the board’s seven seats will be up for election in April; two are for six-year full terms and the third seat is for a two-year unexpired term. All terms will commence on Monday, May 15, 2023.
The Centralia Regional Library District Board of Trustees has the legal authority and responsibility to see that the library is well managed, and that it operates in accordance to the laws of the State of Illinois and the policies established by the Board itself. Duties and responsibilities include budget oversight, policy formulation, long- and short-range planning, and appointment of the library director. The Board of Trustees regularly meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. at the Centralia Regional Library in Centralia.
The Centralia Regional Library District serves a population of 25,678 within a 233-square-mile area that includes Brookside, Centralia, Grand Prairie, Irvington, Raccoon, Odin and Sandoval (except for the Village of Sandoval) Townships, the Village of Hoffman, and Sandoval and Odin School Districts in Carrigan Township.
