The Centralia Regional Library will be a premier community institution that anticipates and strives to meet the expectations of district residents through services and resources that meet current and future needs and are delivered by a knowledgeable and customer-oriented staff in facilities that are accessible, functional and welcoming.
Our Mission
The mission of the Centralia Regional Library is to serve the community for learning, leisure, and life.
Our Long Range Plan
Goal 1 – To provide facilities that are accessible, functional, safe, and welcoming.
Goal 1 Objectives
- With the help of local experts, make improvements to existing landscaping and develop a plan for perpetual care.
- Research and review energy efficiency and replacement plans for lighting within the facility that will make it more cost effective.
- Research possible reconfigurations for the Monken Activity Room.
- With the help of local experts, determine repairs needed for the interior and exterior brick walls.
Goal 2 – To provide collections, programming and services that meet the needs of district residents and institutions, promote literacy and education, and enhance the community’s quality of life.
Goal 2 Objectives
- Provide programs and conduct outreach to all area residents to encourage them to visit and utilize the library and its online resources and collections.
- Offer monthly book reviews on the library website written by area residents and staff.
- Host additional cultural and educational programs using the expertise and resources of community partnerships.
- Seek community input on area residents’ interests and needs.
Goal 3 – To pursue and embrace library technologies that improve, enhance and/or expand services and programming for area residents and institutions.
Goal 3 Objectives
- Continually update the technology plan for systematic replacement of computers, printers, and related equipment.
- Develop a comprehensive social media plan and make use of library staff for content expansion.
- Provide additional technology classes to meet the needs of the community.
Goal 4 – To build and sustain a diverse and professional staff that is knowledgeable and customer-oriented and is prepared to lead the library in pursuit of its vision, mission, goals and objectives.
Goal 4 Objectives
- Update staff evaluation procedures as needed.
- Develop a formal onboarding procedure for newly hired employees.
- Continue to review and update staff standards of conduct as found in the Personnel Manual.
- Use monthly training, as well as periodic workshops, to address pertinent topics as identified by the Library Director and Staff.
Goal 5 – To develop and execute a plan that creates broad community partnerships and support of the library’s programs and services.
Goal 5 Objectives
- Build a database of patron e-mails to expand electronic communication opportunities.
- Establish a long-term plan to expand fund raising for library services and programming.
- Periodically seek input from patrons, staff and community members regarding library operations and direction through surveys, meetings and other means.
- Coordinate activities with and provide support to the Friends of the Library organization to maximize its success.
